The "flat long" was first seen in Spain after the movie "Eat With Me" took her population by storm. The film featured an uproarious scene involving two people eating a curiously long meat sandwich. To look at the thing, one could only imagine this is what a hamburger would look like if you only had baguettes left in your pantry. It was adapted to the Spanish dinner table and known simply as a hamburguese or "Geisha" burger.

The story behind how it found its way back to the states involves a movie* starring Mark Paul Gosselar and Mario Lopez going belly up while on a shoot in Madrid. When the production crashed, Mark Paul and Mario returned to the states with the intent of opening a chain of restaraunts featuring the Flat Long. When this venture flatlined they tried frantically to patent the burger, but were laughed out of the patent office. By then it was too late- America had Flat Long-fever.

*The movie, coincidentally called "Going Burgers", was about two vacationing L.A. police officers who, while on a quest to find the perfect burger, accidentally uncover a plot to assassinate Spanish superstar and undercover Maltese double-agent, Carmelita. It was a confusing script and soon lost its backers, destroying three promising careers.
